Presbyterian Day School in Cristo Rey village is the oldest of the schools. It was started by missionaries Tom and Helen Lacey in 1975. Presently, PDS has 120 students, from kindergarten through 8th grade and seven teachers. Dorothy Meyer, a missionary of the Christian Reformed Church in the U.S., is the headmistress of the school. The remainder of the teachers are Belizeans, many of whom are former students of PDS. Most PDS graduates go on to high school. PDS is consistently ranked as a high-achieving school, especially in English Language Studies. Many of today's leaders in the church are PDS graduates.
Presbyterian Day School is a private school. All expenses, including teacher's salaries, are paid from student fees, Patchakan Church, Cristo Rey Church, fund raisers and donors. Student fees are $10 Bz/month.
